After finishing his professional rugby career with virtually nothing, former Kiwi rugby league player, Sione Faumuina thought he would never get back up after hitting rock bottom.
Today, he is an accomplished published author, success strategist, trainer and motivational speaker who has a passion and a purpose for helping entrepreneurial individuals unlock their true potential and achieve their desired outcomes.
With roots in the villages of Lotoso’a, Saleimoa and Malaela, Aleipata, the former New Zealand rugby league and NRL league player is in Samoa this week for the Samoa Business Network Business Trip event opening tomorrow. He will be facilitating a session on ‘Entrepreneurial Mindset’ and is a key note speaker at the closing event on Friday.
Faumuina keeps it real in order to get real results and he will be opening up about his tumultuous past and how he overcame his addiction and self-destructive behaviours to become a highly sought after public speaker as well as a successful entrepreneur and business person.
“It’s not difficult to talk about my battle with addiction and how they manifested during my career in rugby because I’ve seen the power in being vulnerable.” Said Faumuina in a statement.
In his last year of playing professional rugby league, Faumuina returned to Australia in 2009 after playing for the Castleford Tigers and turned to alcohol as a way of coping with the unsettling transition from elite sports to the ‘real world’.
“ I played professional rugby league for 9 years and struggled with the transition after the sport. I didn’t have any work experience and I went through bouts of low self-esteem asking myself, ‘was that I was good at? Just throwing the ball around?’.”
A mind shift after the birth of his first child was what it took for Faumuina to pick himself up from the ashes and turn his flaws into strengths. In 2014 he quit alcohol for good and committed to a journey of self-discovery, putting his energies into positive and productive activities that would educate and uplift him into a position to empower others.
He published his first book titled ‘ The Second Phase’ after marking a year of sobriety and in 2016 embarked on a journey making a career out of helping others find success through strategies that unlock their personal power to better achieve their goals faster.
“There’s a saying that what your mind can see and perceive, you can achieve.” Said Faumuina “but there are also the realities that your business can become stagnant because a business can never outgrow an owner and it can only grow when the owner grows personally. If our way of thinking is limited then our businesses will be limited and for me I am a big believer in constant personal development if we are set on growing our businesses.”
Faumuina will be speaking directly to people of the business community and aspiring young entrepreneurs about challenging and changing their limiting self-beliefs that can hold them back from achieving the results they want out of their business.
“ It always comes down to ‘thinking outside the box’ and what that really means. I will be talking about the difference between the employee mindset and the entrepreneurial mindset. We’ll also be looking at a business model that is effective and focussed on three key things; core, improve and innovate.”
Sione Faumuina will be facilitating and presenting at the Entrepreneurial Mindset workshop on day one of S.B.N Business Trip held this Wednesday at the Taumeasina Island Resort conference room. He will also be the keynote speaker at the closing event on Thursday at the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel.
